Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on March 6, BJP West Bengal unit President Sukanta Majumdar said on Thursday. The Balurghat MP also said the party will help the sexual assault victims of Sandeshkhali meet the prime minister. Incidentally, Sandeshkhali is located in the Basirhat subdivision of the North 24 Parganas.
Speaking to media persons, Majumdar said, “We came to know today (Thursday) that the prime minister will be visiting the state on March 6. If the mothers and sisters of Sandeshkhali want to meet PM Modi, we will definitely arrange it.”
PM Modi’s visit to Bengal and the decision to address a women’s rally assume significance in the backdrop of several Sandeshkhali women levelling charges of sexual harassment against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders.
While accused Uttam Sardar and Shiba Prasad Hazra have been arrested, TMC strongman Sheikh Shahjahan has remained absconding since January 5 – when a mob attacked Enforcement Directorate officials who had gone to search his premises in connection with an alleged ration scam.
Meanwhile, the BJP on Thursday released a documentary on its social media handles highlighting the alleged sexual exploitation of women in Sandeshkhali.
The over-20-minute-long documentary features testimonies from women in Sandeshkhali who share their harrowing experiences. The party accused the TMC-led state government of trying to hide the alleged crimes in Sandeshkhali.
Sharing the video on its X handle, the BJP wrote, “A truth that’ll shock us. A truth that’ll pain us. A truth that’ll shake our conscience. The truth of #Sandeshkhali, that Mamata Banerjee is trying to hide.”
